CONNECT YOUR EXISTING BOXES

Gmail, Outlook, IMAP and SMTP: which connection to choose?

Aerogram is an email client. It uses the access authorized by each provider to receive, organize and send your mail. You must own the mailbox or have the necessary authorization to connect it.

Gmail with OAuth

Gmail connection takes you to Google to authorize Aerogram; you do not communicate your Google password to the application. The requested permissions identify your account and allow reading, sending and filing mail. Aerogram does not request access to Google Drive, Calendar or Contacts.

The import of the history is progressive and separate from the reception of new messages. A search specific to a Gmail mailbox can be transmitted to Google; Unified local search uses messages already downloaded. This connection does not constitute an endorsement or certification by Google. Supplier permissions and restrictions remain applicable.

Business addresses via IMAP and SMTP

IMAP allows you to receive and classify messages; SMTP allows you to send them. Your provider must allow these protocols and provide compatible settings, with an encrypted connection and a valid certificate. An application password may be required depending on its rules. There is no option to ignore a certificate or use an unauthorized internal server.

  • Receive and send: IMAP and SMTP are configured.
  • Receive only: reading and classification remain possible; a response requires another authorized identity.
  • Send only: SMTP allows redaction and keeps a copy in the local Envoys, without new receipt or promised IMAP copy from the supplier.

Yahoo Mail is presented via IMAP/SMTP, depending on official Yahoo settings and its access conditions; no specific Yahoo OAuth connection is advertised.

Outlook and Microsoft 365 with Microsoft Graph

Microsoft OAuth login is available for Outlook.com, Hotmail, Live, and Microsoft 365/Exchange Online primary mailboxes, if the instance administrator has enabled it. You give your consent on the Microsoft page, without giving your password to Aerogram. An organization may require consent from its administrator. Shared boxes and aliases are not supported; sending only uses the main connected address. The compatibility of each organization remains to be verified during the beta. A Microsoft "accepted" response confirms support for the send request, not delivery to the recipient, and does not trigger any automatic resend.
